Balenciaga Fall/ Winter 2022
Balenciaga has become so stagnant at this point. It seems we see the same looks over and over again. I get that Demna Gvasalia has a particular concept that he sticks to, but I wish he would switch it up for once. In my opinion, I feel the whole vampire matrix concept is becoming a bore. With the position that Demna has, I wish he would try a new approach. When we look at past collections from Balenciaga, pre-Demna, each season had a different concept.
Demna's set design with the snowstorm & the trashbags was to pay homage to Ukraine's refugees. This show isn't the first time we've seen Demna inspired by climate change (I.E., the Balenciaga Fall 2020 Show), and if it's genuine in his heart, then I respect his vision, but part of me still feels it's very ill-fitting. Suppose Demna starts selling high-priced Balenciaga trashbags inspired by such traumatic events. In that case, it will show Demna's lack of compassion & could go very downhill for the fashion house.
I also feel like Demna is more focused on the theatrics & the stars on the front row that it takes away from the collections. I'm hoping for a new creative director for the fashion house because Demna has been sucked into the world of "trending" fashion. Instead of creating looks that could be timeless, Demna is coming up with collections that will be hot at the moment. He's creating looks that will draw attention and maybe not in the best light.
