Met Gala 2022 | In America: An Anthropology on Fashion
Janelle Monáe looked so regal and phenomenal in this custom Ralph Lauren gown. Janelle really stayed true to her personal style while still being in the 'Gilded Glamour' theme but in a futuristic way.
Sarah Jessica Parker was showstopping in this custom Christopher John Rogers gown, paying homage to Elizabeth Hobbs Keckley, the first Black female dressmaker for the White House. Sarah is such an icon and always killing the Met Gala carpet. Of course, the Philip Treacy headpiece is just the icing on the cake.
Danai Gurira in Head of State by Taofeek Abijako. Danai looks absolutely regal in this royal blue gown, and I love the African fly whisk to complete the look. She looks so gorgeous.
Anok Yai in a breathtaking custom Michael Kors gown. My draw dropped when I saw Anok appear on my Twitter timeline. Anok looked utterly stunning as usual. Her presence is so powerful on any carpet she walks. She is truly transitioning into the supermodel that the fashion world needs in today's generation.
Blake Lively's sat as the co-chair of the night wearing this masterpiece of Atelier Versace gown. The transition of the colors blended in the gown is so beautiful and unique. Blake's gown is an architectural reference to the Statue of Liberty hence the tiara and the genius copper hint.
Paloma Elsesser in Coach was a moment. My favorite corset looks of the night; she wears it flawlessly. According to Coach, Paloma's look is "a combination of different decades, from the Victorian era to 1930's slip dresses."
Jodie Turner-Smith is sublime in this custom Gucci dress. So ethereal, she looks like a goddess. I also love the Stuart Weitzman heeled paired with the dress.
Imaan Hammam was another significant presence on last night's carpet in this breathtaking blue Oscar De La Renta gown. The train, her hair, and makeup, her attitude is all just beyond words. A true goddess indeed.
Laura Harrier looked like a princess in this custom gown by Victor Glemaud by H&M gown.
Gabrielle Union paid homage to Diahann Carroll in this Atelier Versace gown. Gabrielle looked breathtaking, especially seeing the gown in motion on the carpet. I love how the gown just radiates on her skin, and the red feather detail was a perfect touch.
My favorite look from Lizzo wearing custom Thom Browne. That cape is perfect!
Cardi B looked like a trophy in this Atelier Versace column gown embroidered with golden Medusa medallions, crystals, and metal chains. She looks so stunning, especially with her hair and makeup to tie it all together.
Jessica Chastain in custom Gucci. I think this look is beautiful on Jessica, but the gown seems a bit heavy and swallowing on her. Nonetheless, I think she looks really regal, and the color is phenomenal.
I really enjoyed Naomi Campbell wearing this Burberry by Riccardo Tisci look. I love the embellishing on her face and those earrings, but the necklace really drew my attention. The necklace is by Jacob & Co., consisting of 37 round-cut yellow diamonds costing $6.6 million.
Billie Eilish wore this 'ivory and Duchesse satin' silky up-cycled Gucci by Alessandro Michele gown with a perfect corset. She nailed it with the 'Gilded Glamour' theme. I truly love seeing Billie step out in looks like this instead of her usual dark look.
Bella Hadid in custom Burberry by Riccardo Tisci. Not going to lie; I was on the fence at first glance, but I really fell in love with this look. Bella is such a beautiful woman, and just her attitude is enough to make any look perfect. Her hair and makeup are so gorgeous as well.
Amber Valetta wore an Azzaro 80's archived gown, and she looks amazing. The dress somewhat reminds me of the architecture in the 1927 Sci-fi film, Metropolis.
Kiki Layne was an absolute vision in this custom gown by Atelier Prabal Gurung. The bubblegum pink color is so radiating on her skin. The fro is perfect. Chef's kiss.
Even though Kaia Gerber's look isn't in the theme, I love this Alexander McQueen silver silk tulle gown. Her hair and makeup make her look like a doll.
Caroline Trentini wore Danielle Frankel. It seems like many people aren't feeling this gown, but I personally really like it. It's different, the color choice blends really well, and I love those gloves. The blue and brown is an interesting take, but I think that makes me like it even more.
Hailey Bieber channeled Jerry Hall in Saint Laurent, and this was a really interesting look. Unfortunately, she's not in the theme, and I think she looks stunning mid-waist up, but I really hate the black stocking and sandals. Maybe this would have been a good look for another event...
Tessa Thompson in this pink tulle Carolina Herrera tiered gown. Though I find this dress pretty, I feel like this dress was worn for the wrong occasion. I also don't see the dress flattering with it being a mini dress and her pairing the look with pink satin boots. Nonetheless, the train is breathtaking, and her makeup is impeccable.
Megan Thee Stallion in a custom Moschino dress with Jeremy Scott on her arm. Though this is a pretty dress, the paneling is horrible and distracting. I wish Jeremy would've had the paneling more accustomed to Meg's skin tone.
The last look I want to talk about is Kim Kardashian. Kim wore Marilyn Monroe's iconic Jean Louis dress worn to John F. Kennedy's 45th birthday celebration in 1962. The dress is worth $5 million and pulled from Ripley's Believe It or Not! Museum just for Kim to wear last night. Kim was not allowed to alter the dress in any way; therefore, Kim lost 16 lbs in 3 weeks just to fit it. It had already been announced that Kim would be wearing the dress, so we anticipated a glamourous moment, but unfortunately, that is not what we got. Not only is Kim not in the theme, but the lucite platforms, the bleach blonde pulled-back hair, and the makeup were just all so wrong. I wish Kim would have at least sported a fresh blow-out, curls, or something. I also learned that Kim wore the platforms because Kim is much shorter than Marilyn, and with her not being able to alter the dress, it would have been too long on her body. The heels made her four inches taller. She also wasn't able to completely zip up the gown in the back, which is why she wore the white fur shrug. Ugh, Kim, why?!
I agree with your statement on Kim Kardashian. I do think that she looks beautiful, but that dress was just not it. I wish she would've gone with Balenciaga Couture.
