Favorite Menswear Spring 2023 Collections
HERMÈS
Let's start off with the stunning Hermes show. There's something about Hermes Menswear that will always win me over. Véronique Nichanian has done such an impeccable job throughout her 33 years being the head of menswear. The polished, chic feel and luxurious comfort make these collections so great to me. It's like a dream style of dress that is timeless and could never go wrong. I love everything about this show, from the cobblestone path giving a quintessential feel to the knitwear paired with the wide-leg shorts and sandals. Just the color scheme alone speaks volumes to me. So simple yet makes such a huge statement. A fantastic collection, Hermès!
OFFICINE GÉNÉRALE
A gorgeous collection by Officine Generale, and the color scheme is impeccable. It reminds me of the Hermes Menswear collections with the open-toed leather sandals paired with pants, collared shirts, blazers, etc. So sleek and chic providing such a quintessential feel.
YOHJI YAMAMOTO
A designer who always nails it, Yohji Yamamoto. I'm still in awe of the Fall 2022 collection this January. I love the play on fabrics used in his collections; I especially love the two patchwork suits above. The craftsmanship is always outstanding, and this collection is just the icing on the cake. I can't wait to own pieces from Yamamoto someday. Can't forget to mention the grey streaks in the model's hair that we always see in his shows that kind of takes us back in time. It plays a significant role in figuring out the era of inspiration for the collection. Always monumental!
BIANCA SAUNDERS
A brilliant, timeless collection from Bianca Saunders. I adore Saunders's play on minimalism, and just like her Fall 2022 collection, she does a remarkable job at mixing prints, denim, silks, and tailoring. Bianca Saunders is definitely someone that I will continue to keep an eye on! Great collection.
LOEWE
You may be wondering if the plants attached to the clothing and shoes are natural. They absolutely are, and I am stunned. JW Anderson at Loewe partnered with Paula Ulargui Escalona to bring this concept to life. Each article of clothing and shoe took 20 days to grow to a suitable length and was cultivated in a specially constructed polytunnel. Of course, all require the maintenance of an actual plant in a garden. I would die if I saw these looks in person because what a great concept.
PRADA
Thank you, Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada, for creating the perfect chic and casual balance. Seeing such a mix of looks from suits, leather coats paired with shorts, short denim sets, and jackets, Cuban heeled boots, and a range of colorful prints all somehow tie in together is phenomenal. I also noticed the lack of signature Prada logos on the clothing, which I'm glad for because I can't stand it when it's plastered on everything. The way these two fashion legends made such classic concepts so modern speaks volumes.
LEMAIRE
The Lemaire collection was effortlessly chic as always. Loved it! I could only dream of how it felt to be in a room with such gorgeous looks. Even though it's just neutral and earthy tones, it is still such a dreamy color palette that I would love to have in my wardrobe someday.
CASABLANCA
A beautiful collection by Charaf Tajer at Casablanca. Tajer tells Vogue that he was heavily influenced by a recent trip to Mexico and wanted to bring that trip to life in Paris by creating a "psychedelic ranch in Paris." I freaking love the first two looks featuring models Alton Mason and Tindi Mar.
THOM BROWNE
An exquisite show from Thom Browne, one of my favorite shows from him thus far. Thom twisted his mid-century American, preppy, tailored clothing style with a kinkier, androgynous, and gorgeous spin. The looks consisted of nothing but a unique French tweed, which according to Vogue Runway, was "made from the same maker of you-know-who-tweed's, inspired by couture of ideology of the 1940s and 1950s."
CRAIG GREEN
Really great collection by Craig Green. I'm genuinely impressed by this is my first time seeing Craig Green's work. The colors used in this collection (white, peach, pinks, sage green, cerulean blue, yellow, beige, and brown) blended so well, and we're so satisfied to see them on the runway. The collection feels like an adventurous journey, like a great twist to utility ware. Fantastic collection.
