Saint Laurent Spring 2024 Menswear
Saint Laurent Spring 2024 Menswear. Another uber-chic, impeccably tailored collection designed by Anthony Vaccarello. Vaccarello continues his play on androgyny, which we distinctly saw in his flawless Fall 2023 Menswear collection earlier this year, which seems to be becoming a signature of his that I hope he continues in future shows. In an interview about the Spring 2024 collection, he talks about this play on androgyny, saying, "I started to build the collection around the shape of the women's now being worn by men. To start somewhere classic and then play with the codes of masculinity". This ode to showcasing the idea of womenswear combined with masculinity is so needed, incredibly executed, and another example of a great designer under a respected fashion house sticking to its codes but adding the designer's flair.
Another honorable mention about the collection is how much it reminded me of the film Tár. This show was showcased in Berlin, as well as Tár. Scrolling through the first few images of this spring 2024 collection, I immediately screamed LYDIA TÁR! She would for sure wear a few of these looks. Crazy enough, Vaccarello mentions, "With their bow ties and high-collared shirts, and distinctly androgyne chic, they gave (albeit unintentionally; it's not where Vaccarello's head was at) a bit of a Lydia Tár vibe." Beautiful show, Saint Laurent!
Lydia Tár would approve!
