Alaïa Spring 2024 by Pieter Mulier
God, do I love Alaïa. Pieter Mulier held the Spring 2024 show over the Passerelle Léopold-Sédar-Senghor footbridge in Paris as guests sat on leather folding chairs given to them through invitation. Watching the show, you get the architectural feel of the iconic fashion house, constantly inventing & adapting new possibilities, forms, and elements through the clothes. Which was something Azzedine Alaïa never failed at doing, ceasing to amaze us. Pieter Mulier is doing a phenomenal job at the brand, and this collection proves why. Azzedine was known for his embrace of women, truly understanding how to accentuate women's bodies. "My obsession is to make women beautiful. When you create with that in mind, things can't go out of fashion", which explains why the fashion house feels so timeless.
Successor Pieter follows the exact house codes with the same eye for timeless beauty. This collection featured leather & latex, not in a fetishizing manner, but in an elegant, feminine chic style. The fluidity of each look as the models cross the bridge captures that powerful essence of incredible craftsmanship, tailoring, and structure that Alaïa has always lived up to. The harmonization of the color palette was so pleasing. Alaïa couldn't have any better successor than Pieter; I know Azzedine is smiling from above.
